Meta plans Muse transaction fees, putting its agent between merchants and customers

Early shopping activity is pushing Meta to monetize its personal agent sooner than its usual product playbook.

Meta says more than 10 million people in the United States and Canada set up Muse in six weeks, one quarter use it daily, and shopping is its most common task, with an average purchase above $200. The company plans to take a percentage of agent-assisted sales and develop a protocol for consumer and business agents, while acknowledging uneven merchant adoption and high computing costs. The model would shift product discovery and the demand signal into Meta’s interface, giving the platform a new claim on transaction revenue and the merchant relationship.

Data Privacy

Meta pauses Muse sharing after discoverable links exposed confidential user data

A public-link design exposed sensitive agent conversations and forced a rethink of how they are shared.

Researchers enumerated 6,800 Muse share links because conversation titles appeared in publicly searchable DNS subdomains, and their review of a few hundred found confidential hiring, revenue, banking and property details. Meta paused the feature while it reviews link discoverability, saying users had intentionally created pages accessible to anyone with the URL. For agent products that depend on broad account access, the failure shows how one distribution feature can undermine the trust needed to own users’ information workflows.

AI answers threaten Wikipedia’s reader-to-editor pipeline while platforms buy or scrape its knowledge

Commercial answer interfaces draw on a volunteer knowledge base while reducing the visits that replenish its contributor community.

An LSE Impact essay argues that users increasingly accept answers from ChatGPT and Gemini without clicking through, reducing direct readership to Wikipedia even as AI systems continue to depend on its content. It says some companies scrape Wikipedia without authorization while Microsoft, Amazon and Meta pay for high-speed API access. If fewer readers become editors, the AI intermediary can weaken the volunteer production system that supplies its answers while shifting access and audience value toward commercial platforms.

Licensing

Meta ties business-platform access to broad web-crawling rights for AI training

New commercial terms extend Meta’s data rights from its services to business customers’ associated websites.

Commercial terms due October 30 authorize Meta software to create credentials, crawl domains associated with business customers and use collected content to develop or train products. The clause covers customers using ads, catalogues, pages, groups and other business services; a legal scholar told The Register that stated robots.txt preferences are not in the contract, and Meta did not comment. For publishers dependent on Meta for audience and business tools, the change shifts control over machine access and training permissions toward the platform.

AI Agents

Meta’s Muse puts a personal agent between users and everyday transactions

Millions are trying an assistant that acts across services by drawing on unusually broad personal context.

Muse can call businesses, manage subscriptions, arrange travel and make purchases using a user’s accounts and personal context; SFGATE reports at least five million downloads and three million weekly concurrent users after launch. The service requests access to logins, financial details, messages, calendars and contacts, while Meta says conversations are not shared with its advertising system. At that scale, the agent could give Meta a new layer of control over demand signals and customer relationships beyond its existing media interfaces.

Personal agents turn early consumer traction into a battle over transactions and access

Early personal-assistant growth is forcing platforms to decide which agents may reach their customers and transactions.

The report says invite-only Instinct passed 100,000 users in three weeks and Meta’s Muse crossed 5 million downloads in under a month, while early usage remains concentrated among technical power users. Amazon blocked Muse within two weeks, whereas several commerce and travel platforms signed official integrations, showing that access to transactions depends on platform permission. As agents become the cross-channel interface for purchases, affiliate fees and transaction take rates could shift customer ownership and demand data from merchants toward agent operators.

Meta’s Muse turns personal data into an agent relationship, deepening platform control

A personal assistant’s memory layer gives Meta a new interface to users’ relationships, intentions and daily tasks.

TIME reports that Muse updates social dossiers hourly for its 4 million users after drawing on conversations, email and Instagram, and that the app has passed 5 million downloads. Meta says the data is not shared with its advertising system or other users’ agents, although de-identified lessons improve the wider product and promised user encryption is not yet available. For advertising-supported platforms, an agent that manages inboxes and errands can own a richer and more frequent customer relationship than a feed, even before its data is used for ad targeting.

Content Moderation

Meta’s AI-only support left a user locked out of a 20-year digital archive

A paid escalation still produced no human contact after Facebook and Instagram disabled accounts holding two decades of personal material.

TechRadar reports that Meta disabled one user’s Facebook and Instagram accounts, cutting off two decades of photos, posts and contacts. The user said she could reach only an AI chatbot, could not obtain human help even after paying for expedited service, and received a decision within minutes closing her appeal; the report does not establish whether AI made the original moderation decision. When an automated support interface is the only route back to a personal archive, the platform gains decisive control over both customer recourse and continued access to user-created media.

Meta’s Muse powers concert discovery—and highlights a blocking problem for media sites

A concert curator reports billions of weekly tokens for $80, revealing how cheaply an agent can search and classify media across platforms.

The operator of concert service fullsets.fm says Meta’s Muse scans Reddit and YouTube for recordings, discovers channels, matches artists and makes final approve-or-reject decisions in the curation pipeline. He paid $80 for a month and reports using a few billion tokens a week through a managed Chrome environment, although jobs can freeze and the interface remains rough. At that price and scale, browser agents can sharply lower the cost of building media catalogs while pushing source platforms toward tighter controls over automated access.

Hunterbrook finds Meta’s Muse turned social-platform data into on-demand dossiers

A two-day test found ordinary prompts could aggregate vulnerable people’s posts, identities and employers at a scale outside chatbots cannot match.

Hunterbrook Media reports that during two days of testing, Muse returned lists of 10 to 100 Facebook and Instagram accounts associated with requested vulnerable groups, many belonging to private individuals. The agent mined posts, comments, Reels transcripts, bios and username history, sometimes joining them with web searches to identify names and employers; Hunterbrook withheld its prompts and results and said Meta had not commented by publication. By making platform data searchable at this scale through a free chat prompt—without the general search API available to outside assistants—Meta gains new control over how community information is aggregated and exposed.

Meta’s Muse reportedly mined private messages for article ideas, exposing an editorial-data risk

A firsthand test says the agent turned private Mac conversations into story prompts despite a disabled system permission.

AppleInsider, citing a firsthand Inc test, reports that Meta’s Muse synced 187,000 lines from a journalist’s Mac Messages database even though Full Disk Access was disabled. The agent then suggested article ideas based on conversations with a podcast co-host and editor, despite Meta’s claim that Muse only uses connected apps and data sources users authorize. If the account is accurate, permission failures could turn an editorial assistant into an unapproved reader of newsroom communications, raising the cost and risk of adoption.

Meta's Muse Charm turns its consumer agent into a transaction interface

A pocket-sized interface extends Muse beyond the phone as Meta builds a transaction-funded relationship with users.

Meta says the fingerprint-activated keychain device will ship in December, giving users a screen and real-time voice access to Muse without wearing glasses. The company says Muse's bots can order groceries, book travel and organize finances, and plans a free tier funded over time by small transaction fees. By coupling an agent with portable hardware and social-platform data, Meta is trying to own the customer interface—and the demand signal—before merchants and information providers are reached.
