Claude Opus 5.5 pairs lower costs with stronger legal and financial research
Early evaluations link Anthropic’s new model to better citations, research quality and task economics for specialist information products.
Anthropic has launched Claude Opus 5.5 across Claude, its API and major cloud platforms, with input and output token prices 20% below Opus 5 and cache reads 60% cheaper. LexisNexis said the model consistently found relevant legal citations, while Thomson Reuters reported better CoCounsel evaluations and Hebbia measured 86.6% coverage against expert finance rubrics, up from 60.3% for Opus 5. Those customer results are early, vendor-published evaluations rather than independent tests. If they translate into production, stronger retrieval at lower cost could improve the margins and competitive position of AI research products built on proprietary legal and financial information.
