Agent-built dashboards put one company’s $150,000 Looker licence under pressure
An internal analytics stack gained Looker-scale use, but its cost comparison leaves engineering labour outside the bill.
A data-platform team says Claude and an analyst agent now generate and publish free-form HTML dashboards through one connector, with weekly use matching Looker while Looker usage fell by a third. The team puts annual infrastructure and continued-development spending at about $20,000 against an average $150,000 Looker licence, but excludes eight months of work by three engineers and still has dashboards without replacements. The case shows how agents can move value from a packaged information interface into a company’s own data, permissions and workflows, weakening a vendor’s hold on the customer relationship.
