Coding agents strip ads and tracking from smart TVs, threatening platform control of the home screen
Plain-language automation is giving television owners new leverage over the ads, surveillance and interfaces bundled with their screens.
Developers are publishing workflows that let owners point coding agents at open-source repositories to remove manufacturer launchers, advertising packages and some tracking from smart TVs over Wi-Fi. One creator said thousands tried his no-root method within two days, but the report also records failed attempts and one claim of a bricked television. If such tools move beyond enthusiasts, TV makers could lose control of content discovery, interface advertising and the viewing data sold to advertisers.
