Xbox Labs will test agent-built ports and remixes against games’ existing business models
A new internal lab will explore what happens when agents can rebuild, port and remix games across technical boundaries.
Xbox has formed Xbox Labs, a small group tasked with turning agent-enabled game decompilation, rebuilding, porting, and remixing into experiences for players and developers. It says the work could make old games easier to access and turn more players into co-creators even as it challenges current business models, while committing to build in the open, share tools, and remain a responsible steward of intellectual property. If these tools lower the cost of moving and modifying games, platform exclusivity, catalogue control and the commercial value of legacy intellectual property could all be renegotiated.
