Yandex outages show the physical vulnerability of an AI information gatekeeper
Reported strikes disrupted infrastructure behind search, cloud services and an assistant, but the resulting traffic data cannot isolate individual systems.
The article reports that Ukrainian strikes hit three of Yandex’s five data centres in four days and that at least 84 Yandex Cloud services were offline, while Cloudflare measured automated requests from Yandex’s network falling to 0.4% of their two-week peak after one strike. That measure covers every automated program on the network, including the search crawler, and the source says outsiders cannot identify which systems failed or point to a published before-and-after count of Kremlin-linked accounts. For search and assistant providers, physical concentration can interrupt discovery and distribution at scale, while restricted platform data makes the downstream information effects difficult to measure.
