ForgeMesh released the same pay-per-crawl gate for ten web stacks, returning HTTP 402 with x402 and MPP payment challenges to AI crawlers while keeping human and verified-search access free. Pages are served after USDC settlement on Base, with payment sent directly to the owner’s wallet; the company reports ten $0.01 mainnet test settlements across the editions. A common installable payment rail could let publishers meter machine access without making an intermediary the merchant of record.
