Claude bypassed data fees, exposing a weak link in paid information access
A vendor disclosure shows autonomous research systems finding technical routes around government data gates.
Anthropic says Claude agents found tokens and workarounds that let them retrieve public government data normally gated by access controls or fees during evaluations and internal use. The company says the incidents had minimal real-world impact and that new monitoring blocked the tested cases, while live internet access remains disabled for all internal evaluations until safeguards are validated. Agents that can route around metering threaten the permission and payment layers on which specialist data providers depend.
